Now that plans for the new High School/Career Academy have been finalized, I will be providing regular updates.
The project officially went out to bid Thursday, Jan. 17. Contractors interested in bidding on the project will have access to blueprints at “plan rooms” in Fort Dodge, Des Moines, Minneapolis, and Omaha.
A pre-bid conference will be held Jan. 30. At the pre-bid conference, interested contractors have an opportunity to ask questions of the architects related to something they would like clarified. They also have the opportunity to suggest alternate products be approved by the architect.
Actual bids for the project will be due on Monday, Feb. 18, and a bid will be approved at the Feb. 20 board meeting.
Previously a plan of the building itself was shared. Included with this article is the site plan. The north entrance off Grimmell Rd will be for buses, staff, visitors, and the Career Academy. The south entrance will be for the student parking lot. Part of the project includes an alternate bid to allow access to the building from American Avenue from the east. If accepted, during school hours this would be dedicated to bus traffic instead of buses using the north Grimmell entrance.
The oval areas to the northeast and to the southwest of the building are retention ponds. The pond to the northeast will be a dry pond which means it will mainly have water in it during rain events. The pond to the southwest is a wet pond and would always contain some amount of water.
